MEDIA RELEASE: “FUNDING BOOST FOR Y GREEN WESTERN SYDNEY ”
MTC Work Solutions has teamed up with Dusseldorp Skills Forum, StepLight Pty Ltd and seven local councils in Western Sydney to successfully bid for Jobs Fund program funding.
The ‘Y Green Western Sydney’ program is a residential home sustainability initiative providing paid employment and skill development for young people in an emerging ’green’ industry, energy and water efficiency for residential households, environmental awareness for all participants. The project will encourage young people into further education, training and providing immediate employment opportunities for jobseekers in areas experiencing economic downturn.
The Department Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Jobs Fund initiative has committed $1.2M over 2 years for Y Green Western Sydney.
“The program will provide young people aged 15-25 who have not completed year 12 with direct job creation in local government areas currently experienced higher levels of unemployment than the rest of Sydney” Mark Chaffey CEO, MTC Work Solutions.
Y Green Western Sydney will conduct 4,000 Home Sustainability Consultations for residential properties in Wollondilly, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Fairfield, Canterbury, Bankstown and Penrith.
“The Y Green program is a fantastic program that was a perfect fit for MTC” Mark Chaffey.
Young people will be trained as home sustainability advisors through a nationally accredited training course which covers the technical information needed to complete a residential sustainability consultation as well as customer service skills, first aid and occupational health and safety.
“I would like to thank the Australian Government for their support and look forward to the important work of supporting jobs and providing training opportunities in green industries for young people and educating communities across Western Sydney about energy consumption and sustainable living”
